Dr. Gary Ackerman is the CEO and Founder of Nemesys Insights. Dr. Ackerman has over two decades of expertise in strategic forecasting, risk assessment and human behavior modeling.
Dr. Gary Ackerman is the CEO and Founder of Nemesys Insights. In this position, he leads the implementation of Nemesys Insights technologies into new domains. Dr. Ackerman has over two decades of expertise in strategic forecasting, risk assessment and human behavior modeling. He concurrently serves as a Professor of Homeland Security in the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity at the University at Albany, SUNY.

Dr. Ackerman’s work focuses on assessing emerging risks and understanding how adversaries make tactical, operational, and strategic decisions, particularly regarding innovating in their behaviors. He has developed several novel threat and risk assessment techniques to explore dynamic risks where there is little or no empirical record to work with. Much of his work in this area has been centered on the motivations and capabilities for actors to acquire and use chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear weapons, as well as other emerging technologies. In addition to his faculty position at Albany, Dr. Ackerman was the founding director of the Center for Advanced Red Teaming (CART) and has established several innovative R&D components in other organizations.

Dr. Ackerman is internationally recognized for his work in adversary innovation, including testifying before the United States Congress and serving on an expert committee at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. He has published widely in a variety of academic journals, including the Journal of Risk Analysis, SCIENCE, Simulation and Gaming, and the Journal of Strategic Security.
